Are the French Magistrates Involuntary Cause Lawyers ? Violaine Roussel I analyze how French magistrates involved in political scandals in the nineties promote, through their uses of criminal rules and procedures, a « cause of law », rejecting all kinds of political activism. The mobilisation of new actors, in the judicial and in the political fields, leads to reframe progressively the original cause, focusing on the fight against corruption and for the international judicial cooperation. The political appropriation of such discourses contributes to politicize the cause and to shift hugely its meaning
