Abstract: This article is about yãmîy, a genre of maxakali indigenous literature. The Maxakali people live in the Vale do Mucuri, in Minas Gerais. They speak and write in their own language, called maxakali, which relates to the Macro-Jê linguistic stem. We verify the existence of a poetic genre, which nowadays has been published in books as didactic material for an indigenous educational program. We propose to use "transcriation", in terms of Haroldo de Campos' theory, to the translation of yãmîy. We recognize it as being a genre guided by a paratatic logic in its structure, which means it is a ideogrammatic genre like oriki from African culture, "transcriated" by Antônio Risério as well. Keywords: indigenous people; Maxakali; poetry
