Neste trabalho, apresento uma descrição estrutural das quatro maneiras diferentes de expressar a negação em Awetí, tronco Tupí, e avanço uma explicação tentativa para a negação nessa língua, sugerindo uma estrutura profunda oracional de tipo performativo
