She is an interdisciplinary feminist scholar with specializations in gender, hip hop, latino/a, lgbtq, performance, and visual studies. She was an American Association of University Women Fellow in 2012–13. She is now preparing her manuscript Graffiti Grrlz: Performing Feminism in the Hip Hop Diaspora for publication as a book.Shanté Paradigm Smalls is an Assistant Professor in the Department of American Studies at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where she teaches courses in critical race theory, hip hop studies, popular culture, genre fiction, and queer theory. She was an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of English at Davidson College from 2011–13. She is currently finishing her first manuscript, Hip Hop Heresies: Queer Aesthetics in New York City
