L'A. examine l'integration du travail des enfants dans l'economie coloniale du Swaziland entre 1917 et 1947, afin de mettre en evidence les processus de transformations capitalistes. Il centre son analyse sur l'utilisation du travail des enfants (essentiellement des garcons) dans les exploitations agricoles des proprietaires terriens blancs dont les activites ont largement contribue a consolider les rapports coloniaux de production capitaliste. Il examine d'abord la periode 1917-1931 marquee par des accords de fermage, le travail des enfants n'etant pas paye. Il decrit ensuite la periode 1932-1947 marquee par la salarisation progressive du travail des enfants. En rendant visible les enfants dans le proces de travail colonial, l'experience du Swaziland met en lumiere les processus de proletarisation et de socialisatin en Afrique coloniale
