Although collective bargaining in its usual sense obviously does not exist in the Soviet Union, this article offers evidence that some Russian labor unions nevertheless provide a limited form of protection to their members. The author analyzes three Soviet collective agreements and a host of official documents in the light of interviews she conducted with union and management officials on a recent trip to Russia. The data she presents in this and her previous article in the January 1957 issue of the Review, together with Janusz Zawodny's description of Soviet grievance procedures in the July 1957 issue, constitute one of the most complete accounts now available of the nature of labor relations in the Soviet Union.
