Popular districts and patrimony in Mexico After narrowly escaping destruction by bulldozers, the «vecindades», low-rent housing projects in the center of Mexico City, have now become a model of popular sociability to be safeguarded. In Puebla, the local people, opposed to the renovation of modest districts, petitioned for the protection of their universal patrimony. But respect for the way of life of the populace in patrimonial decision making is, nevertheless, a socially generous principal whose application remains relative to political circumstances
