Les AA. decrivent la place et le role du phoque dans la culture des Inuit. Ils montrent comment le phoque apporte aux Inuit beaucoup plus que de la nourriture et des vetements, dans la mesure ou ce n'est qu'a travers son partage et sa consommation qu'ils affirment conserver leur force physique et mentale. Evoquant notamment les effets de la campagne anti-phoque, et adoptant une perspective holiste, les AA. mettent en lumiere l'importance du phoque dans l'identite inuit moderne
