Rt suME.-Cet article essaie de caracteriser certains des problemes qu'entratne !'etude du passe des sciences sociales comme une serie d' «histoires de disciplines» separees, et confronte cette demarche avec celle qui, par contre, etudie aux origins des sciences sociales les activites de leurs praticiens potentiels, comme faisant partie dune histoire intellectuelle plus large.S'appuyant sur ce contraste, il explore certaines des di rences principales entre les recherches sur l'histoire des sciences sociales en France et dans les pays anglo-saxons, considerant brievement les sources intellectuelles et institutionnelles de ces dirences, et il conclut sur quelques modestes suggestions pratiques
