The main purpose of this study is to define mortality trends in London [England] from 1750 to 1909 by reaggregating and processing the available statistical data. The data are from the annual London Bills of Mortality and from official annual vital statistics. Consideration is given to mortality trends in general and to changes over time in mortality from specific causes. The results suggest that medical invention had less influence than dietary change on improved health conditions in London. (EXCERPT)
