Sailing Olivia Ruiz (bio) Saúl’s new sure-footed eyes stand beached amazed on a woman’s shore. In her fingers he is sweet fumes rising from his navel flesh she stokes with hands brought up on guanábanas, mameys Madreamor. Who else could have raised a boy from sugar cane? A girl’s song seeps through the dusk outside, as springs hum under a boat the two sailors launch with rhythms as even as hymns. Olivia Ruiz Olivia Ruiz lives and works on the northern and southern borders of Mexico in Baja, California, and Chiapas.
