These are the proceedings of an international symposium entitled The Mortality Decline and Short-Term Population Movement held in Lund Sweden June 22-26 1981. Sixteen papers by various authors are included. The papers deal with aspects of the relationship between demographic and economic changes in preindustrial Europe. The primary focus of most of the papers is on the decline in mortality and the factors affecting it and on the factors influencing short-term fluctuations in population trends in the preindustrial era.
