This brief essay contemplates the past, present, and future of lesbian scholarship and activism that a shift from a limited focus on identity concerns to broader social justice matters represents. The author explores how venerated elder generations broached and legitimized lesbian studies as a bona fide field of scholarly inquiry and praxis while considering how younger generations of lesbian thinkers encounter a capacious state of lesbian studies. Theorizing lesbian lineages across generations based on her research projects, the author makes a case for comprehending several timely lesbian studies lessons
