he London bookseller George Thomason acquired his copy of The Cry of Stone by one Coachman in February i642, presumably only short time after it was printed by partnership of Gregory Dexter and Robert Oulton. Although only sixty-four pages long, little treatise announced on its title page that it would settle at one go controverted question of the Right, Matter, Forme, and Government of visible Church of Christ and expose fatal defects of Church of England in these respects, while also providing a just reproofe of overstrained and excessive separation, contentions and divisions of such as commonly are called Brownists. 1 Despite, however, largeness of offer and timeliness of topic, tract apparently excited little comment, at time or subsequently, and most famous thing about it has remained its printer: Gregory Dexter went on to print Roger Williams's Bloudy Tenent in i644, and then, after that work was burned by order of Parliament, to become pioneer of Williams's colony of Rhode Island
