Natasha Trethewey, an assistant professor of English at Auburn University, was born in Gulfport, Mississippi. Her first book of poems, Domestic Work, which won the 1999 Cave Canem Poetry Prize, was published this fall by Graywolf Press. For her poetry, she has also won a number of other prizes and has been awarded a number of fellowships, including the Grolier Poetry Prize, the Jessica Nobel-Maxwell Memorial Award, a National Edowment for the Arts Fellowship, and a Bunting Fellowship to the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University. She has published poems in a number of periodicals, including The Southern Review, Gettysburg Review, Agni, New England Review, American Poetry Review, and Callaloo
