This essay presents a number of reflections on Mexico's political transition within the Latin American context, the historical background which explains the current policy concerning the armed forces and the most significant and visible changes that this transitional process has produced in them, both internally (organization, functioning weapons, new schools and military and naval zones) and in relation to Mexican society (declarations, actions, etc.) and finally, with regard to the immediate geopolitical surroundings : the United States during the post-Cold War period
