Gilles Deleuzes scattered writings on love situncomfortably in conventional understandingsof his work yet, I claim, they may haveunrealised potential for both scholars of his workand theorists of intimacy more generally.Although much work on sex and sexuality isunderpinned by Deleuze and Guattaris conceptof desire, only recently have Deleuzes writing onlove been theorised. This is perhaps notsurprising, as his work on love may appear tobe at odds with both his anti-humanism and hisrefusal to regard the human subject as eitherstable or coherent. But this is the case only if loveis imagined to require "the human" and "thesubject" to perform it, or if such matters arepresumed to be absent from Deleuzes work
