Research Article| April 01 2011 The Comisión Femenil: La Voz of a Chicana Organization Sonia R. García, Sonia R. García Sonia R. García is a professor of political science at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. Her research interests include Chicana politics, civil rights, women and politics, and Texas politics. Dr. García has published articles on Latina politics and is lead author of Políticas: Latina Public Officials in Texas (University of Texas Press), which examines the careers of the first Latinas elected to various positions in Texas. She is also co-author of Mexican Americans and the Law: ¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido! (University of Arizona Press), a review of court cases brought by or impacting Mexican Americans. She teaches community studies, which places students in internships in local community-based organizations, schools, or institutions that serve the Chicano/Latino community. Dr. Márquez’s research interests include Chicana politics, Chicano and Chicana communities, and student movements. She has served on numerous boards for local non-profit agencies and currently serves as president of the board of La Casa de la Raza.
