Prince Albert, Consort to Queen Victoria, is remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, a patron of the arts and a dedicated public servant. Yet, in his time, another image of the Prince appealed to the British public, that as the modern incarnation of a chivalric knight. Albert's own actions, first promoted through a chivalric image, redefined the modern interpretation of the institution. For the Victorian public, the German Prince codified a new manifestation of the British knight-"Albert the Good"-praised in public image and private iconography
