This text explores the emerging field of study of people "unaffiliated" with institutionalized religions in Latin America. The dominant ecclesiocentric perspective is criticized, proposing an approach that prioritizes the understanding of individual experiences and extra-institutional religious practices, considering the complexity of biographical trajectories and the influence of sociocultural factors. The text emphasizes the need to harmonize academic categories with individuals' self-definitions, recognizing the diversity of beliefs and practices, and advocates for the integration of interdisciplinary perspectives to overcome ecclesial and institutional biases. Finally, the implications of this growing group for understanding secularization processes in the region are highlighted
