Dakar has seen the development of several initiatives aimed at producing African-centered critical thought, such as the Ateliers de la pensée, which were launched in 2016 by Felwine Sarr and Achille Mbembe; and the creation of several structures and partnerships focusing more specifically on artistic productions. The history of the arts in Dakar – through its institutions and its art scene – has been the subject of a number of publications since the 1990s, particularly in the United States. T
