Viking Age silver hoards often contain silver ingots in addition to coins, ornaments, and hacksilver. These ingots served as bullion resources, and the evidence they can bring to bear on determining Viking Age metrological systems is examined, with particular attention towards ingots from Viking Age English and Welsh hoards. The analysis suggests a unit of c. 26gm, but with leeway on either side, due both to the limitations of the evidence and lack of precision on the part of the Viking Age craftsman. This unit is comparable to other postulated Viking Age units in the mid‐20gm range derived from other types of evidence
