Acoustic research was conducted as part of a wider programme aimed at understanding and conserving Silbury Hill, a prehistoric mound in southern England. The research combines modelling and experimental fieldwork to investigate the significance of sound transmission within the landscape. The current landscape form is shown to have a more restricted soundscape than it did before the monument was constructed. This fits well with revised understandings of the site, which emphasize creation over performance
