Rescue excavation of a burial chamber at the Classic Maya site of Lubaantún, Belize, showed it to be a collective inhumation tomb containing at least eighteen individuals. Analysis of the teeth demonstrated that all were adult and probably genetically related, while the associated pottery vessels indicated deposition of burials during the eighth and ninth centuries A.D. The relationship of the tomb to other Classic Maya examples of the collective inhumation rite is discussed
