A simple plotter, the Reflex Metrograph, is described which is capable of drawing sections, profiles, contours and surface details of small objects. The object is not physically contacted during the process, which is important when the object is precious or delicate. The instrument can also be adapted to give 3‐dimensional co‐ordinates to a computer, allowing measurement of distance, curve lengths, surface area and volume. A companion instrument — the Reflex Microscope — is also described which is more suitable for very small objects where higher precision is required
