L'Association internationale pour l'Histoire des Religions (IAHR) s'est reunie pour la premiere fois sur le continent africain, en aout 2000, a Durban, Afrique du Sud, pour son Congres quinquenal. L'article resume ce qui s'est passe pendant les sept journees de congres autour du theme general, Histoire des religions : Origines et visions. Le congres fut marque par les interventions remarquees d'Africains et aussi d'une Indienne. Les traditions religieuses de l'Afrique ainsi que des sujets specifiques de ce continent eurent une grande importance dans le programme
