La societe secrete masculine, Ekpe, des Aro de Arochukwu, procede a des mascarades lors des enterrements. Description des processions Okwu Akang, Akang et Mgboko. Les masques auraient une fonction de couverture face aux limites de la rationnalite. La nouvelle identite qu'ils creent est celle d'une entite surhumaine. Ils aident a transformer les emotions de la communaute (tristesse et esperance) : ce paradoxe, cette ambivalence sont au centre de toute mascarade. Les masques servent d'interface entre les humains et le monde des esprits, ils mediatisent le probleme intellectuel de la mort
