and an elder in the church. We had a very enthusiastic school choir of young men and women that became practically the church choir. Whenever the school (it was a boarding school) was in session they sung every Sunday in church. There was a beautiful song based on the words of Jesus on discipleship where he asked the question, 'What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?' The song went like this: What will it profit you, my friend With all the riches of this world If you do not have the riches of Jesus Your Savior who also died for you. Various things would be substituted for riches in the second lines as the song went on. I had heard this song a number of times and I really loved it. However, when they sang it this one Sunday, I thought something was not right culturally, ethically and theologically with what I was hearing. This time, they substituted words that came from the realm of the occult in the second line. It so happened that I was also the preacher that Sunday. The new rendering went like this: What will it profit you, my friend With all the witchcraft of this world If you do not have the witchcraft of Jesus Your Savior who also died for you
