L'A. s'interesse aux lieux d'Afrique du Sud ou se pratique la divination (ngoma). Il tente de comprendre le mode unitaire de fonctionnement du ngoma en Afrique du Sud en termes de conscience: comme une realisation de l'oppression et une volonte de lutter contre elle, comme un ensemble de mots qui represente une approche particuliere de la perception, de l'interpretation et de l'action a l'egard du malheur.
