The Aids Pandemic, the Prophet Billy Chisupe, and the Democratization Process in Malawi

Cet article presente le cas de Billy Chisupe, fermier du sud Malawi qui fit un reve en 1994 dans lequel des esprits d'ancetres lui designaient un arbre dont l'ecorce etait censee contenir la guerison definitive du SIDA. Au bout de quelques mois des dizaines de milliers de personnes se rendaient chez lui pour y recevoir ce medicament nomme «Mchape». Apres presentation de ce cas, l'A. propose une interpretation de ses images sous-jacentes et conclut avec une evaluation de ce que cela nous dit sur la comprehension locale a la fois du SIDA et du processus de democratisation de ce pays
