DILLEY (University of Aberdeen, Scotland) I This is a study of a systematic body of ideas and cosmology sur- rounding the activities of a group of weavers and praise-singers, the Tukulor mabu6e. In particular, I focus here on how some of these ideas are embedded in a weavers' song. The subject of craftsmen in Africa, particularly in the west of the continent and in parts of the Horn, is often associated with the concept of 'caste', since members of these specialised occupational groups are seen
