Hylas, the protagonist in a para-narrative of the Argonautic journey, is a hero who embodies a transformed epic heroism and a new poetic aesthetics in the Hellenistic era and who was a subject of particular fascination in the Latin literary tradition. Dracontius, at the end of the classical era, revisits the Hylas myth as he consciously engages with the poetics of change and narrative fluidity.
