This contribution argues that Plutarch's Convivium Septem Sapientium, a work of historical fiction in the form of a sympotic dialogue, partakes in a tradition of interweaving convivial texts with the notion of mortality. The author argues that the theme of death, which is introduced by Plutarch through several different literary strategies, constitutes a recurrent element in the dialogue
