1 I use 'writing through' to suggest a methodology less concerned with representing knowledge and more concerned with producing it. In similar contexts, Irigaray uses the phrase 'parlerfemme' which puns on 'par les femmes' to mean both feminine language and language produced by women, (in English this is represented by 'speaking (as) women'.) Margaret Whitford proposes that speaking of woman should be language (langage) or discourse which contributes to making it ... .say grief (I can barely mourn and yet I am filled with mourning for the lost for the costs, for the dead of incomplete revolutions). (DuPlessis, 1990: 173)
