Male artists are very likely to be on the defensive when this year's Hayward Annual opens next week. The show was proposed and organised by a group of five women artists, they have chosen 23 artists only seven of whom are men. (Last year's Hayward Annual showed just one woman.) 'I think we're fairer to the men than they were to us', comments Tess Jaray, one of the organisers. (Suzanne Hogart, Sunday Times 13 August 1978)1
