This article analyzes images posted in a BDSM Whatsapp group that portray relationships between male dominants and female submissives, in order to observe how positions of domination and submission are constructed multisemiotically and whether these constructions mobilize discourses of gender and sexuality. The analysis of the images follows the methodology of Visual Design Grammar, as developed by Kress and van Leeuwen, and reveals that the dominant and submissive positions are reinforced through the contrast between expressions from different modes of language, sometimes approaching and sometimes diverging from normative discourses regarding gender and sexuality
