elimination of the basic differences which separate them. According to this view the socio-economic and political systems of Communism and the West tend to converge over time. A corollary is usually drawn to the effect that convergence will lead to a lessening of international tensions and thus remove the danger of mutual nuclear annihilation. Clearly this is an intriguing view which deserves close scrutiny, critical appraisal, and a more careful formulation than it has so far received
