The comparison of the occupational, educational, material and other mobility aspirations of Mexican Americans with those of the larger society reveals the group is not the exception to the ethnic pattern in the United States that it was considered to be until now. The previous misperception of Mexican Americans stemmed from the inadequacy of previous research techniques-namely their reliance on controlling statistically the class factor. The research reported here challenges this technique in its approach and findings
