The paper intends to investigate the transfer of specific technological achievements from one civilization to another within the ancient Near East. Its principal concern is with the appearance and the distribution of flasks and vases made of colored glasses in Babylonia, Assyria, Upper Syria, the region along the Mediterranean Sea and Egypt which are in evidence from the middle of the second millennium B.C. Philological as well as archeological evidence is utilized to establish the direction in which this invention
