Unfinished Christians: Ritual Objects and Silent Subjects in Late Antiquity is a beautifully written book that evokes the sensory world it is describing. Georgia Frank conjures the physical world of late antique Christians, but she even more powerfully conjures the people themselves, and the full range of their emotions. Her argument is that objects bear witness to the humanity of those who made, used, and engaged with them, and she explores this idea with a sensitivity and empathy that make this a compelling book to read
