L'A. examine l'ordre des mots en gallois, une langue VSO. Il examine egalement les conditions sous lesquelles la mutation consonantique initiale est declenchee. Il est souvent soutenu, dans la litterature du liage et du gouvernement, que le gallois a un ordre de base SVO et une regle transformationnelle de mouvement du verbe desquels derive la structure de surface VSO. L'A. presente des arguments en faveur d'une analyse VSO, aussi bien pour la structure superficielle que la structure sous-jacente, en les illustrant par des exemples de la mutation consonantique
