Max Weber developed his method of the ideal type construct while elaborating his theory on the religious refusal of the world. In so doing, he illustrates some of the fundamental themes of his epistemology. A structuralist reading of this text, or even an interactionist one, would certainly provide an opportunity for examining the concept of the knowledge value oflearning pertaining to “the general rules of experience” used by Max Weber to formulate his interpretations. But within this “theoretical parenthesis”, Max Weber systematically developed a global theory whose essential concepts are based on the tensions between spheres of activity, each having its own internal logic, and also concerned with the rôle of imperceptible changes and “moments” of equilibrium. Wouldn’t Max Weber’s modernity thus be related to this attention paid to continuous changes in the social reality
