This article, after presenting one of the perspectives relating to the European derivation of Latin literature and culture, will consider the issue of national affiliation, principally through the categories of "imitation" and "autonomy"/"originality," seeking to highlight certain aspects of the language and circumstances in which the unitary aspiration of the national, in its different manifestations, came into existence.
