PALAVRAS2CHAVE: Afrodescendência; Portugal; diásporas africanas; herança colonial; Projecto Afro-Port ABSTRACT: On the basis of a re3ection that identifes the main elements of the intricacies of conceptualizations that characterize Afrodescendence, the article highlights the current experience of Afro-descendants in Portugal, which is distinguished by the specifcities of the ways the ex-colonized are incorporated into the country and by the efforts of delimitating national identity in terms of whiteness, despite the presence of people whose existence leaves no room for doubt that there is a Black Portuguese population. Indicating the relevance of the ways in which non-white Portuguese (and Afrodescendants) seek a designation of/for themselves today, daring to distance themselves from (and/or counteract) the stigmatization that targets them, the article seeks to inventory and question concepts that are adopted and vulgarized around Afrodescendence that, at present, extend beyond the unveiling of stigmatization, the presence and existence of Afro-descendants in the Portuguese social space.
