WILLIAM FIELDING OGBURN, shortly after being elected the first president of the Society for the History of Technology, died on April 27, 1959, following a brief illness. His loss was felt not only by the new Society, which he was instrumental in founding, but also by a large segment of the world of learning, for at the age of seventy-two Ogburn continued to be active in many fields of research as he had been throughout his long and distinguished
