HE summer cottage has been overlooked as a subject of serious study, in Canada as almost everywhere else. There are no statistics on it, and therefore an accurate appraisal of its importance in the geography and the social and economic life of Canada is not yet possible. The only people interested in summer cottages, apparently, have been their occupants and those who hoped to sell something to them. In order to achieve more intimate contact with their market, the latter have frequently applied to the Canada Post Office for lists of the home
