{T^ I HE Bradford oil region is the northernmost oil field in Pennsylvania. It is located mainly in the north central part of McKean County, and extends a short distance into Cattaraugus County, New York (Figure 1). This region is a part of the unglaciated portion of the Allegheny Plateau. It is characterized by a high, nearly flat upland deeply dissected by stream erosion. Because of the inaccessibility of the area it was passed by in the early westward migrations.
