The objective of this article is to examine some contemporary forms of invention and construction of the Japanese-Brazilian identity. To do so I concentrate on the body practices called « ocidentalization » which concern the Japanese-Brazilian and, in particular the « eye ocidentalization » surgery. This is because, in the case of the nikkei, the form of the eyes is the physical element where the « mark racism » is the strongest. Even though the vast and complex literature on the racial issue in Brazil touches neither the ethnic question nor the imigrants, racism and discrimination, which focus on the phenotipics are in direct relation with the almost a hundred years of the presence of the Japanese and their descendants in the heart of Brazilian society, where the largest Japanese community, outside of Japan, lives
