An attempt is made to explain black-white differences in expectations concerning age at marriage among low-income young female Americans. Data are from the Southern Regional Projects 63 and 126 undertaken in six southern states and concern 467 girls interviewed in 1969 and then in 1975. (ANNOTATION)
