Research Article| September 01 2000 Hair Race-ing: Dominican Beauty Culture and Identity Production Ginetta Candelario Ginetta Candelario ginetta candelario is an instructor in sociology and Latin American and Latina/o studies at Smith College and a Ph.D. candidate in sociology at the City University of New York Graduate School. She has published articles on Dominican racial identity in the United States, on Latina HIV/AIDS activism, and on Dominican women's use of AFDC benefits in New York City. She is currently working on Dominican identity displays at U.S. and Dominican museums, on the history of beauty shops in the United States, and on the Dominican community in Washington, D.C.
